CPXample, the philanthropic division of CPX Interactive, is attending the Social Good Summit this week. Marketing Associate, Taylor Hall, describes the highlights of day two.

Day two at the Social Good Summit was all about connectivity. Where yesterday was about networking, this day was about getting down to business and establishing relationships. Attendees at the event were meeting and greeting with one another through handshakes and Twitter handles, while conversations about ways we can start solving the world’s problems through technology and new forms of media were being shared both on stage and online.

Hans Vestberg, President & CEO of Ericsson as he shares more about the company's sustainability initiatives.

The highlight of the day was getting the opportunity to sit down with Ericsson’s CEO, Hans Vestberg and the VP of Sustainability, Elaine Weidman to discuss the ways their using the company’s technology to further their philanthropic initiatives in developing nations.

These execs took time out to sit down with us bloggers, social media and communication professionals for a more intimate conversation which was such a profound thing to be a part of. I was personally blown away by their discussion about how they plan on using cloud computing for education in developing nations as a way to help reach one of the UN Foundation’s MDG’s (Millennium Development Goals), of universal primary education. Another topic that they touched upon was their Connect to Learn initiative and how it will be able to create a new way for education to be shared, give access to adequate healthcare and allow small businesses the opportunity to grow in developing nations.

To see the video of the round table discussion with the Ericsson execs and to see learn more about their Corporate Sustainability initiatives, see the videos below. To see the latest updates from the Social Good Summit, follow our philanthropy blog, CPXample.

CPXample, the philanthropic division of CPX Interactive, is attending the Social Good Summit this week. Marketing Associate, Taylor Hall, tells all about her first day at the
four-day event.

After my first day at the Social Good Summit, I really got to thinking about technology and the ways it is creating a better world. It is shaping the future of communication while designing new ways for us to connect and grow. There are so many positive things that technology can do in the world and that has been the topic of discussion here at the Social Good Summit.

Day one was all about getting connected at the Digital Media Lounge. Two giant rooms housed more than a hundred computer latched technology people from all different corners of the world typing away on ipads, laptops and cell phones; gazing into their screens as if it were a staring contest. It was such an intense and powerful place to be as myself and countless others were tweeting, blogging or sharing information about the conversations and interviews taking place at the summit. I think the Digital Media Lounge has really created something great here by allowing us bloggers and tech nerds into the event to help spread the word about all the good things that are coming out of the Social Good Summit.

Randi Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO, A to Z Media talks with Scott Harrison, Founder and CEO, Charity: Water

The highlight of the day was hearing Scott Harrison, from Charity: Water talk more with Randi Zuckerberg, A to Z Media, about ways his organization is helping to bring clean water to developing countries.

It was also a great pleasure to hear from Christy Turlington Burns and Heather Armstrong, Founder and Writer of Dooce.com about their involvement in Every Mother Counts, an organization dedicated to creating awareness about maternal health for women areas that don’t have access to adequate healthcare.

All together, it was a successful first day at the Social Good Summit. I’m betting day two is going to be even better. I am looking forward to interviewing with Ericsson and I can’t wait to see more presentations from the scheduled guest speakers. Stay tuned to see what happens next.

Our philanthropic division in review…and a quick look forward.

We like to think of ourselves as a global online ad network with a conscience. Since our early days as a pioneer in the display advertising space, we have believed that the power to drive millions of eyeballs to online destinations creates a corresponding sense of responsibility. For this reason, we have leveraged our resources to create a corporate philanthropic division, CPXample, and thru it we have lent the power of online exposure to good causes of all kinds.

In the first stages of the philanthropic division’s growth, we picked specific causes to work with and served millions of no-charge impressions per month (usually 30 million) to direct scalable traffic to the cause’s website. Causes we partnered with during this early phase included; SaveDarfur.org, LiveEarth.org, The Child Rescue Network, Children’s International, and the American Diabetes Association.

As time passed we thought it would be interesting to put some more of our own ‘skin in the game.’ We began to think about creating and promoting our own causes. One gratifying result of this initiative was our partnership with Russell Simmons and his Hip-Hop Urban Action Summit Network in creating and promoting a celebrity studded video that addressed the importance of getting out the vote leading up to the 2008 presidential election. “Vote For it ’08!” was the name of the video and the related promotion. (OF NOTE: with the help of CPX Interactive’s global network, ‘views’ of the video shot to over 1 million with a two week launch period!)

As interest grew in the CPXample project, we realized that we wanted to ‘cover more ground’ and we decided to improve how we executed our plan. In order to increase the number of causes we could spotlight every month, we launched our ‘cause aggregation blog,’ http://www.cpxample.com/. Now, we could drive millions of impressions every month to one specific location, offering multiple cause per month the chance to be spotlighted on the site while a steady stream of cause-minded folks checked in to see what was new.

Along the way we have focused on Brand Philanthropy, offered ways for interested parties to get involved in causes, pointed to places where they could donate to recovery efforts and highlighted fun and interactive ways to make the world a better place…one click at a time.

In trying to keep up with how people choose to engage, we have added a Twitter stream and a Facebook page to the CPXample family along the way.

As we look forward to what is in store for our philanthropic efforts in the remainder of 2011, we are very excited about the upcoming Social Good Summit, a partnership between the United Nations Foundation and Mashable. The Social Good Summit will bring together entrepreneurs, philanthropists and technologists from around the world to discuss the current and future global challenges, and how the advances in technology can help. CPXample plans to cover the event in depth and to offer any assistance we can (with the help of the CPX Interactive network) in helping Mashable to make it a truly globally viral event.

As we continue to grow, we are always looking for new opportunities to branch our philanthropic efforts into other directions. You can reach out to us on our website at http://www.cpxample.com, on any of our social media pages or by emailing us at CPXample@cpxinteractive.com.

The Best Walk in April is a “March”

Although the month of March is over, there is one march that is continuing all year long. The March of Dimes is a charity organization dedicated to improving the overall health of babies. They support research initiatives related to birth defects, infant mortality and premature birth.

One way that the organization raises money for this research is by holding nationwide walk events called March for Babies. The March of Dimes spends 75.4% of the money raised in March for Babies on research and programs that promote the health of babies. Every year over seven million people participate in the March for Babies walks. This year, one of our own CPX Interactive members happens to be a Team Captain for one of the March for Babies walks which is taking place on Long Island later this month.

Jessica Castelli, an Account Manager in CPA Sales, has started a team in honor of her own daughter, Sadie Rose, who passed away at only five days old. The team, which includes other CPX Interactive members, will be walking the six mile track on April 30th to benefit the organization. Jessica’s team goal is to raise $3,000. With only 24 days left to go, the Sadie Rose team page currently shows that $1,386 of that goal has been met. The team is still hopeful for additional contributions within the coming days.

I spoke with Jessica last week about March for Babies. “This is the first year that I’m participating in the March for Babies event. I wanted to be a part of it because of my daughter, but it’s a great organization to be involved with, in general.” With a modest yet very proud smile, Jessica continued to tell me all of the ways March for Babies inspires others to get involved and donate to the cause.

To get more information regarding the organization, The March for Babies site is a great place to start. You can find team pages, local chapters and upcoming events for March of Dimes and the March for Babies walks. To donate and show your support to the Sadie Rose team, you can visit their page at http://tinyurl.com/sadie-rose-team. March for Babies can also be found on facebook, twitter and youtube.

CPX Interactive uses Philanthropic site, CPXample, to help Japan

It was on March 11, 2011 that an earthquake ruptured off the East coast of Japan violently shaking cities and small rural towns for up to five minutes in some areas. The earthquake was so powerful that reports of trembles from the violent quake were felt reports came in from over 1,200 miles from the epicenter. Within fifteen minutes a 33-foot-tall Tsunami traveling at 500-miles-per-hour devoured Japan’s landscape as the wave traveled inward off the coast for almost 6 miles. Without mercy, the wave swallowed everything in its path paralyzing a country and causing the greatest destruction and loss of life that Japan hasn’t seen since World War II.

In the past, CPX Interactive has leveraged its own philanthropic division, CPXample, to drive awareness of both brands and not-for-profits using online tools and strategies to encourage global activism. Whether focusing on help efforts in the wake of the Haitian earthquake or supporting the get-out-the-vote effort right here in the US, CPXample has always been the outlet through which this global online ad network has channeled its ability to drive significant online traffic toward good causes. The ongoing tragedy in Japan will be no different.

For the next fweeks and months, CPXample.com, will highlight organizations that are doing their part to help the survivors of the recent devastation in Japan. This will be supported by the division’s twitter feed (@cpxample ) and its facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/#!/CPXample). Additionally, CPX Interactive will be ramping up the amount of online traffic it donates to directing internet users to the CPXample.com website.

By shedding some light on these valuable philanthropic resources, we seek to inspire individuals to participate and take action anyway they can. In the effort to rebuild Japan, the global community will need to build a humanitarian support system committed to laying one brick at a time over a long period. Find out how you can get to work today at www.cpxample.com.

Throughout Q3, our philanthropic division, CPXampleTM, is shining the spotlight on brands who are giving back. This initiative is two part, and exemplifies our belief in the old adage that “with power, comes responsibility.”

The first part of the initiative is a series of articles on our philanthropic website, CPXample.org. We are featuring many well-known companies who are leveraging their success and brand recognition to do good. Some work through their own foundations, while others partner with non-profits. Causes run the gamut from education, to the environment, to cancer care. A number of companies not only do their own work in the community, but also help others give back. Thus far, we have featured Ford, Taco Bell, Domino’s, Starbucks, and Procter & Gamble, with many more to come.

The second part of the initiative is an online campaign of interactive survey-style ads that will begin running soon, and go through Q3. The ads ask users whether a high profile brand’s commitment to specific philanthropic initiatives affects their own impression of the brand, and to what extent these efforts make them more likely to engage such a brand.
Last month, a group of CPX executives traveled to Ecuador for a very special event: the opening of the B.U.D.S. Community Center in Guayaquil. The building of the center was a project first invested in by co-founders Mike Seiman and Carlton Hickman, and its name comes from the acronym they gave their initial business venture, B.U.D.S. Inc. It stands for “Brothas Unda Da Skin,” and it represents Carlton and Mike’s close personal bond, despite different ethnic backgrounds. At the time the center project became a reality, several other members of the CPX Executive Team became sponsors as well. They are COO & President, Rob Rasko, VP of Publisher Development, Mike Zacharski, VP of Sales-CPA Division, Jeff Reitzen, VP of Network Operations, David Zapletal, and Emily Seiman, VP of Creative Development.

Mike and Emily Seiman’s connection to Children International extends back 12 years ago. It was then that they began sponsoring children, and they have since sponsored more each year. It was on a trip to visit Yosue, one of their sponsored children, a few years ago, that Mike first learned about the need for a better community center in Guayaquil.

“They took me to the community center, and I could tell it was in need of much improvement. The center served nearly 6,000 children, and was not properly equipped to give them everything they needed. I saw a real need for refurbishment and expansion, and I have really enjoyed helping Children International build a place that can truly serve the community in Guayaquil,” Mike said.

Watch below as Mike and Carlton talk about working with Children International at the center’s opening ceremony:

Last week, the Lustgarten Foundation held its annual Holiday Rock & Roll Bash to benefit the fight against pancreatic cancer. CPX executives, Mike Fleischman (EVP of Business Development), Gary Bembridge (EVP of Sales) and David Shay (EVP of Marketing) attended the event at B.B. King Blues Club in Times Square. They were among 1,000 guests who enjoyed a rock-and-roll and blues performance by JD & The Straight Shot, led by Cablevision President and CEO James Dolan, as well as a performance by the Radio City Rockettes.

“The Lustgarten Foundation’s commitment to fighting pancreatic cancer over the last 10 years has been amazing. The tremendous support of companies like Cablevision really help drive awareness and provide funding for accelerated research to help find a cure for this deadly disease. I worked directly under Marc Lustgarten during my 20 years at Cablevision, and was glad to bring the foundation to the attention of the CPX team. CPX is looking forward to supporting the Lustgarten Foundation in the future,” said Mike Fleischman, CPX Interactive’s EVP of Business Development.
